REVIEW: Justin Timberlake - The 20/20 Experience Album

All I remember is one second it's new years eve 2012 and the next thing I know, it's Justin Timberlake all over the place in 2013. The new king of pop Justin Timberlake is making a groundbreaking return to music. He now has the whole wide world in his hands and is ready to release his forthcoming solo album The 20/20 Experience. The entire album is once again produced by partner in crime Timothy Timbaland Mosley. Justin has also reached out to upcoming star writers like James Fauntleroy who is co responsible for Suit & Tie as well as Mirrors. Monday afternoon RCA Records and Justin made the full album available for stream when you pre-order the album. In my opinion, this is a huge step forward in the fight against piracy and album leaks. Unfortunately not more than 12 hours later the album did eventually leak.

Pusher Love Girl: The introduction to the album, this record was first introduced back at the Directv superbowl party in New Orleans. For this album, Justin introduces a new house band that will accompany him throughout his tours and performances that go by The Tennessee Kids. Pretty symphony strings set it off, until the beat drops. He also performed the song on The Jimmy Fallon Show last night. The added background vocals and sounds are courtesy of JT and Timbaland I'm sure. They always bouncing crazy new beats and noises off each other.

Suit & Tie: When this song was released, The world became slaves to Justin Timberlake. Besides his fun loving personality and the ability to not ever take himself too seriously, Justin has grown so much from his last album and you can clearly tell when he decided to collaborate with Jay Z on this record. This get together also sparked a mini tour between the two, which includes a stop in Pasadena, Ca at the Rose Bowl.

Don't Hold The Wall: Begins with smooth acappella, but immediately transitions into a sultry sounding club jam. Timbaland is known for the funkiest sounding of sounds, and with this one I think he taps some Bollywood inspiration for the vibe. A similar sounding Justified song comes to mind and when people hear it, they will be reminded why Justin is the greatest at what he does. Another transition twist the track and your left with nothing to do but dance. One thing that makes up for the lack of tracks on the album is the fact that almost all the songs are extended 7 minute pieces of art.
'
Strawberry Bubblegum: An interesting vocal sample, when Justin begins singing it's almost unrecognizable. Like a young Mike Jack, Justin is very versatile with singing and sounds to be possibly mimicking someones idea. No harm done because it is a beautiful song and team work is always needed for greatness. The final transition of the song has you feeling happy, regardless of what else is going on in your life and that's the truth and point.

Tunnel Vision: Another interesting choice of sounds for this song. With a distorted vocal sample and almost euro-dance synths, I have proclaimed Tunnel Vision as my favorite record on the album at the moment. Don't get me wrong, JT's previous album FutureSexLoveSound was brilliant and changed the music game in a lot of ways, but this album has taken it a step further. Not only is it completely relevant to the rest of the industry, but in fact ahead of everybody else once again. This song will do wonders in the club by the way dj's.

Spaceship Coupe: I'm going out on a limb here and calling this one the strip club anthem. The baseline is dirty and compliments the vocals just right. Mark my words, strippers will be on the pole to Spaceship Coupe. At about the 4:30 mark, the song transitions and takes a naughty turn for the best with flipped sex sounds and heavy breathing. Almost positive that isn't Timbaland breathing all hard like that, but I could be wrong.

That Girl: This song was also premiered at the super bowl party. What was first released made people think that the 20/20 Experience will be more sophisticated and even a flop, it was quite the opposite. It is sophisticated, but much more innovative, relevant and progressive I guess I would put it. The chemistry between Justin's soul and Timbalands talented mind is explosive. Anybody listening to this album will be singing all songs including this catchy uptempo soul song for the next month.

Let The Groove Get In: This song first seemed out of place, almost a jazzy, miami nights mix. After the second listen, I have come to learn Let The Groove Get In is a very important piece of this puzzle. I'm not sure what he is planning for this song, but it will be another amazing spectacle when it's revealed. Anybody that likes to have a good time and party will enjoy this song. Very spicy with many dance breaks throughout.

Mirrors: Justin's second single Mirrors is out now and the visual is soon to follow. Don't think What Goes Around similarities, think Timbaland and Justin Timberlake signature sounds. The song transitions and slowly progresses with a funky accappella mix up to 8 minutes.

Blue Ocean Floor: Blue Ocean Floor is another different sounding song that everybody is used to from Justin. Ocean waves lightly crashing in the background and a weird sounding tape deck sample makes up the background sounds as well as a unique vocal sample. James Fauntleroy could have co wrote this one, or I may even go the extent of saying Frank Ocean may have helped out in some way.

Whatever the case is, Justin Timberlake truly lived up to all the hype and critics that expected greatness from The 20/20 Experience. That is exactly what open-minded music lovers will get. It's only March and already Justin has hosted and performed on SNL, crashed iTunes, shut down the Grammy's and now will begin his tour. How could you get tired of this guy. For Gods sake he's an original boy band member turned into one of the greatest artist/musicians of this era. Quote me on that.
