JMSN - Priscilla [Listen]

I'm discovering more and more new untapped music and art that needs to be shared immediately. Detroit is known for, of course the legendary Motown Records aside from great hip hop, but someone unexpected is emerging from the dirty D. A singer/producer that goes by the alias JMSN is impressing the world with his debut project Priscilla. 16 original records produced entirely by JMSN himself, the tone of the album itself welcomes darkness. On December 12, 2012 JMSN will headline a show at The Troubadour in Hollywood. On December 11, The Game will release his latest efforts Jesus Piece, where he will feature the young artist on a track accompanied by J Cole. Look out for a brand new JMSN project in 2013. #youngmovement

Villa x Pack Light, Travel Far EP [Download Now]

One of my favorite artists representing the down south ATL has just released his latest album called Pack Light, Travel Far. Villa is young, fresh and fly with anything he is associated with, but this album really solidifies him as an exceptional artist. Much like his debut album, Inertia, which I considered at the top of best albums in 2011, PLTF is full of bright sounds produced by B. Rossi and fulfilling stories.

Wiz Khalifa x Taylor Alderdice Mixtape Review

The mixtape is out and already gold *Update* Platinum 250,000+* on Dat Piff and if you haven't heard, Taylor Allderdice is the new Rich Forever. Wiz Khalifa feels like he didn't get his point across on his debut album, Rolling Papers. He did go certified gold and had three platinum singles, but who's counting. This isn't a Taylor Gang mixtape, although it has several crew features. This is a Wiz taking what he does very seriously.

Even his soon-to-be wife, Amber Rose hops on the sequel to his Kush & Orange Juice classic, Never Been Pt. II. I co-sign her with this one. Here sound is new and fresh, but im unsure of her use of the N word. Am I missing something? Anways, the only similarity with this and Rich Forever is that they are both exceptional albums, I mean mixtapes. What people might not know about young Khalifa is that he is full on Independent. From the label to the crew, they making real money and seeing serious royalties.

Newest signee to the label is OG Grammy winner Juicy J and he appears on almost every track. The trippy king is a good look for the crew. Let’s just say he fits in. He kills tracks like My Favorite Song and T.A.P., which is extra special because it’s produced by A$AP clansman SPVCEGHVSTPVRPPP. I was surprised by the young producer/rapper. His creativeness inspired me immediately. Production is another aspect of the project that takes this mixtape to the level of a studio album.

One of the hottest tracks I like at this moment is the last song on the mixtape called Blindfolded ft. Juicy. New producer buzzin in the industry is Harry Fraud who produced French Montana’s latest smash Shot Caller. Taylor Gang does it all; Raps, Produces, Manages and even engineers their own work. Resident producers/engineers like Sledgren, Big Jerm and Cardo bring fresh noise to the table. Some unique samples are found throughout the tape like chops from The-Dream, Frank Ocean and more. I’ll let you find them. Overall the album gets 5 stars from Next In Show. Everything expected from a young creative genius. Wiz Khalifa’s forthcoming album O.N.I.F.C. is releasing later this year, as well as other camp projects. Download immediately if you haven’t already. Welcome To California Music.

Lana Del Rey * Born To Die * Album Review

Lana Del Rey, formerly known as Lizzy Grant, has redefined herself as well as her music by releasing her debut album Born To Die. Recently on Saturday Night Live, Del Rey appeared on the late night show as the musical  performance. Although I thought her performance was spectacular and actually had substance, critics such as "self-proclaimed hipster" hahah NBC hahah news anchor hahah called it the worst musical guest ever for the show. A little harsh, but all press is good press. Brush that nonsense off and get ready to hear a real piece of work. #NEXTINSHOW I think I'm in love.

Lana Del Rey * Born To Die * Album Review

The opening track to the album is also the album title Born To Die. The visual leaked a couple weeks back and was nothing short of epic. From the orchestral productions to the Renaissance scenes of Lana on the throne, she is not afraid to step away from the norm. The song has an eerie feel to it, which gives me chills when I am experiencing. Production credits go to fellow producers Justin Parker and Robopop. The chillin speach in the background is credited to the band Mountain's Long Red. The sounds of the album are somewhat similar to that of Kanye West. I wonder if he contributed inspiration to Lana while creating this album?

On the the next track, as Off To The Races blends in transition. As the beat builds Lana's voice gets stronger and it almost sounds like a new white girl rap. "He doesn't mind I have a Las Vegas past. He doesn't mind I have a LA crass way about me/He loves me with every beat of his cocaine heart". Her dual voices and haunting imagery makes for a beautiful sound. Hip hop drum samples keeps the song relavant.

The songs Blue Jeans and Video Games both were obviously Lana Del Rey's claim to fame. Even more was that she never released the mp3 versions of the songs, but instead shot 2 visuals and created internet hysteria with them. Both songs have similar sounds and feel to it. I feel an old hollywood vibe and for some reason western movies keep popping up in my head. Video Games is a little less filled (production-wise) a simple harp and string section let Lana show off her vocals. Elvis meets Nancy Sinatra.

I figured it out. Throughout the album, unique soundbites are included on almost every song. This is one of Kanye's trademarks and that is where the inspiration comes from. That is exactly what takes place on the song Diet Mountain Dew. Works so well though. Since Del Rey recently signed to U.S. record label Interscope, she will have to get familiar with the sounds of hip hop. So far after listening to the album, I don't think she is far off. Im not a big fan of analyzing lyrics, but I think she is comparing Diet Mountain Dew to her man. She wants it so bad, but she shouldn't have it because it is bad for her. That's my attempt at decoding the interesting song title.

The next track is conveniently titled National Anthem, Although I think her national anthem is speaking of the power of money. Strings start off the with fireworks and a crowd in the background. When the dark hard-hitting drums come in, Lana begins her white girl rap. Her rapping resembles that of Bob Dylan or Johnny Cash's poetry. "Money is the anthem of success, so put on your mascara and party dress". Del Rey is an artist who doesn't seem interested in what money has to offer, but more interested in making a difference with her music.

Initially when I went to play album, the songs were out of order and this next track Dark Paradise happened to come on. At first listen, I instantly fell in love with it. I guess you could call it a freak accident. This track slightly resembles Born To Die with her trademarked wordplay. I can't get over how Lana mixes dark sounds of the orchestra and combines it with uptempo neck breaking drum kits. "Everytime I close my eyes, it's like a dark paradise, no one compares to you but there's no you, except in my dreams tonight". Heartbreak music at its best.

Radio is another hit record. "Baby love me cause I'm playing on the radio". Who is she trying to prove herself to? It's a catchy tune. Her lyrics have the heart of a lion. What I mean by that is you can always feel the emotion in her lyrics, whether it's a simple chorus like this or one of her more complex songs like Blue Jeans.

Who is Carmen? Lana dedicated this entire track to a woman Carmen. The tempo changes from slow head swaying to straight up two step head bouncing. Del Rey seems to be referring to the ideal woman that all girls want to be like; beatiful, successful and loves to party. If you listen close towards the end of the song, you can hear a woman speaking french in a low voice.

Million Dollar Man is one of the album's only legit ballads. This song is something I could see her playing at an open mic piano bar. Another old Hollywood vibe to it. Although you can hear ghostly sounds in the background, the typical drum kits are left out of the equation.

One reason why this album is so great is because of the next level production. Credit goes mainly to Robopop, Justin Parker and Emile. Summertime Sadness is another catchy record that will go nice in the pop world. This song is just another example of how it could be mistaken for a movie. The epic sounds and lyrical imagery is amazing.

This Is What Makes Us Girls is a tale of what Lana Del Rey was like as a  sweet 16'er. Having something to believe in was what you expected. This was a time in your life for not only girls but boys to, to feel like they can do anything. "This is what makes us girls, We don't look for heaven and we put our love first, don't you know we'd die for it? It's a curse, don't cry about it, don't cry about it, This is what makes us girls, darlin' little queens do you know what you're worth? I'll tell you everyday till you get it, girl it's all gonna happen".

Lana Del Rey's is making more than just music here. This album is a complete work of art. Each song is it's own movie. It will go down as one of the best albums of the year. Be sure to check out the Deluxe Edition, which includes 3 more amazingly done tracks. Tracks include Without You, Lolita (re recorded from a precvious ep, but sounds so much better) and Lucky Ones.

Stay tuned for February 7th when Next In Show covers a special in store performance by the beauty herself Lana Del Rey. #MusicIsMyLife

The-Dream Releases First Single From The Love, IV: Diary of a Madman

A few months ago, August 31st to be exact, The-Dream released a completely free album to his fans and followers. Dream released the album under his birth name Terius Nash and titled it his birth year, 1977 (REVIEW HERE). Quite a work of art for being a free album. A role model of mine lives by the motto, "Wealth Is Of The Mind, Not The Pocket." Now for The-Dream's forthcoming album The Love, IV: Diary of a Madman, he stays true to his Dream roots by releasing ROC(Rock Your Body) as the first single. A catchy tune, but resembles his previous first singles. If something isn't broken don't fix it. I'm feeling real inspired today if you can't tell. Check out the song below. Interesting artwork. ILLUMINATI??? -_-

Adam Reverie x Next In Show Exclusive

Detroit born and bred, Adam Reverie is a product of his environment. Home of Motown Records, his music relates to the r&b classics because of his live instrument sounds and technique. Infused with hip-hop, Reverie is the perfect combination of soul and hip hop.
Check out his latest mixtape Love The Way I See It

When did music first enter your life? My mom always tells me this story of how she used to sit by her stereo speakers and rub her belly praying that I'd have a musical gifting before I ever entered this world. So I guess music entered my life when I was in my mother's womb... her artists of choice were Force MD's & Ready For The World.

You're from Detroit, home of Motown. How does living there inspire your music? Well I'm from Detroit and have since moved outside of the city, but to answer the question our musical history is a very storied one but not one that is greatly told in our own city limits if that makes sense it's almost a hidden treasure those stories are. The lifestyle though is very vivid when you come here and that is a people with million dollar dreams yet we have nickle and dime thoughts do to a lack of resources,a very strong lust for material things and many dreams deferred...I love my city so much I do,but it's the truth . Outsiders love to argue about which city has the greatest atrocity and deem that city quote on quote real, but we know better we want the finer things in life just as everyone else has and so the chase for those things and not having the resources to get them lead to a lot of heartache and pain...my music tells those stories of the segregation line between blacks and whites better known as 8mile and a constant search for peace, love and acceptance not only from the world but amongst ourselves.

Talk about your career so far. 1Positive/1negative experience. It's been a very promising journey thus far especially when you consider the fact that I'm doing everything from the artwork to the singing and promoting on my own. The only thing I haven't done is produce my own beats. So when you think about those things then you have to look up to God and say thank you for all the blessings you're sending and know that you're blessed because there are people who have been doing this way longer than me and haven't covered the grounds that I have in such a short time. I think a positive experience was when I opened for Three-6 Mafia a while back and these Chic's started flashing me I almost forgot my damn lyrics, but I held it together that was definitely a positive experience both the show and those boobies (laughs). A negative experience is one I experience everyday which is the blog grind. People don't know the work that's put in as a independent artist trying to be heard. It's tough sitting at a computer sending emails to sites and because you're not a familiar name to them they overlook you, but it's all a big test in order to have a great testimony.

This past year you won a Def Jam showcase. How has your life changed after that? You Know that was very big because Lenny S. (President of A&R at Def Jam) looked me right in my face after my performance in Cleveland and said you got it. That meant the world to me just for the simple fact the record I performed wasn't a very lyrical record although extremely catchy and the fact that he helped build  Roc-a-Fella Records from the ground up with Jay-z so obviously he has a keen ear to what sounds good. Nothing came out of that  unfortunately because I was at the time on a label or so I thought, but that's another story in it's self. Yet and still I am happy that he and another gentleman by the name of Anthony "Scoe" Walker  took notice of my talents so blessings to them I'm sure we'll meet again on better terms.

Love The Way I See It is your debut album. What inspired you to create this project? Yeah it's actually a mixtape, but I did approach it like a narrative album my inspiration for this project was life, we often say life is love so I just wanted to show people what love or life was like through my eyes.  I also believe Hip-Hop to be one of the most judgemental genres of music so I  wanted to make something for all people and touch on as many aspects of love and life as I could within 16 songs without losing the main ingredients of Hip-Hop which are lyrics, but also write about topics not usually confronted or expressed in the light in which I did them in "Love The Way I See It".

What music are you listening to right now on your iPod? Man y'all tryna get me to give away my secrets huh ? Umm... Common's "The Dreamer The Believer", but I don't listen to it like everyone else does I re-ordered his track listing  because I didn't feel like the way he ordered the songs was cohesive and took away from the overall feel of a really good album when re-ordered.  Rev's "The Dreamer Believer" Track listing (Laughs): 1,8,2,9,6,4,7,3,5,10,11,12 listen to and make a play list in that order and I promise it'll give you a different feel and appreciation for the project...you're probably thinking I'm nuts but they say it's a thin line between genius and insanity maybe I'm flirting with it... just maybe (laughs).

What goals have you set for yourself for 2012? 2012 twelve is going to be the year I garner national attention. I'm going to continue to push "Love The Way I See It" up until the Summer and try to get on as many sites, blogs and magazines that one man by himself can get on (laughs) so by this time next year people will have read this like hey that man said he was going to do it and he did. So 2012 is the year of national recognition for me.

What can we expect from you this year? Well I'm currently working on my next project "Detroit Loved us Detroit Hurt us" it's another concept project and even more personal than "Love The Way I See It" it talks a lot about the Detroit culture and mindset we all have experienced growing up in the city. It's going to be a special body of work I'm really excited about it!

What is one piece of advice you can give to aspiring musicians entering this "game"? Remember you're a recording artist so be creative, be expressive,be honest give the world you... people are really receptive to that. Don't get caught up in the whole staying true to Hip-Hop thing to the point you just want to stay underground forever because I believe that's such a selfish act. Your music could be the soundtrack to someone Else's life, but because you put yourself in this box your message will never reach them. Hip-Hop has been said to have saved many lives so let your voice be heard to the masses to save many others. Not even Harriet Tubman stayed underground, but how she moved the people is how she became renowned.

Thanks for your time. Stay Humbled. #nextinshow

Iman Omari - "ENERGY" Album Review

It has been a while since any album has really influenced my life like this one. Los Angeles native Iman Omari recently released his debut album Energy at midnight, on his birthday of November 28, 2011. When importing the album on iTunes I noticed the genre field was already filled in as Vibe Music. The album includes only 8 tracks, but manages to resonate more with me then most music out now. Energy is an amazing album, which deserves to be heard. Next In Show is fully supportive of Iman's 'Vibe Music'. Check out the Energy Album Review below.

The title track, Energy gives you a pretty good idea of the sound known as vibe music. Additional vocals are provided by lyricist, Fitzroy and trumpet is played by Josef Leimberg. Take Away features Overdoz member Good Joon and was the first official single to be released last month. Another mellow vibe track, which seems to blend so well from the previous song. The album is mixed by creative genius KenBts. From here the album transitions to the track Midnight. This song is co-produced by Rick Bricks, who is 1/2 of the LA production team THC. Here is a track that includes more lyrics than usual. I think the whole album is evenly balanced with newage harmonies and lyrics, which makes Energy stand out. On with the review. You Make Me Smile (With My Heart) follows. This song was actually released months ago through Iman's YouTube page, so this vibe music didn't just surface over night. Energy is entirely produced by Iman Omari himself with minimal features. First Time is the other track that features 1/4 of Overdoz, @Tubeyornot2B. I am proud to say that Next In Show was a part of the songs studio session with Iman and Joon. It was an experience I will never forget. It was then that I realized, this album will make an impact when released.

CHECK OUT INTERVIEW HERE

Another song which was co-produced, this time by the complete THC team. Worth It comes after and is co-produced by the other half of THC, Axel Folli. THC has produced numerous tracks for other LA artists including, Overdoz and Nipsey Hussle. Worth it keeps the vibe music flowing. The next track I'll Do Anything For You, is easily one of my favorite tracks on the album right now. The trumpets are performed again by Josef Leimberg. The final track on the album is Let Me. This song has been hard to get out of my head recently. The beautiful sounds and poetic lyrics have a lot to do with this. Gia Scott-Heron is a writer/poet who has been writing since the age of 10 and she provides the poetry in the beginning of the song. Another feature is from Tiffany "T-GOOCH" Gouche who adds additional vocals.

Support good music and be sure to download Iman Omari's new album ENERGY out now. Shoutout to Rheo $pliff for creative and cutting edge cover/back cover artwork. Next In Show Exclusive Interview with Iman coming soon...

New EP for "Lil Kim"? Yes, 5 Tracks Worth

Lil Kim announced via Twitter today that she is indeed releasing a 5 Track EP for the Christmas Holidays. According to Kim it's supposed to be a sample of what we all should expect in 2012. Hmmm... I'm not sure what she's done recently to make us believe this EP will "reinvent herself" or show what we've been missing after years and years but hey, it's worth a shot. I just hope it's not all about Nicki Minaj, who is also planning releasing her Sophmore Album next year.
