Fresh off of tour, and busy collaborating with pretty much everyone in the music business, Gilbere Forte doesn't seem like he slowing down anytime soon.
Polica's music is hauntingly smooth. Their debut album Give You The Ghost is something you must experience. The group is formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota and members include founders Ryan Olson + Channy Leaneagh as well as Chris Bierden, Ben Ivascu and Drew Christopherson. Pitchork filmed a Documentary on the american indie band.
Chicago turned LA native Nylo has been buzzing for a while. Maybe the most prominent buzz was when Mr. Nasir Jones shouted her out on Twitter (and continues to do so). Hate Nylo if you want, but you can't hate her beautiful songbird of a voice and creative direction. Indigo Summer is her latest project timed just right to play on these hot summer days. It's not too late to hop on the Nylo train. She is taking off quick and this mixtape shows a start of a bright future. Nylo teams up with super producers such as Tricky Stewart, which includes a hot feature from Gilbere Forte, my personal favorite team The Fisticuffs lend their genius and Nylo herself lays down some sick production. A Chicago girl at heart, multi talented artist Nylo lives in Los Angeles now and just performed on top of the historical Roxy Theatre in Hollywood. On The Rox is a smaller nightclub and on Saturday 03.08.13, @HateNylo brought her A game and stunned the crowd with her short but sweet performance. Backed by a new band from her previous Troubadour performance, Nylo takes the stage a little after 9:50PM. She begins with a smooth and soulful unheard record call You Already Know.
From there Nylo announces to the crowd that they are too far away and must move as close as possible to the stage immediately. That worked in everyone's favor because as soon as she started the next song, the crowd was much more involved. Another beautiful, but unheard gem is performed. The crowd response was positive. Excited oh's and aw's filled the background. Nylo then proceeds to take off her flannel jacket and the show really begins. A previous release Take Me Back begins, which is a bit more upbeat. Next song, Nylo walks to the keyboards, which she is very familiar with and begins to play a familiar song. Rent Free. The crowd picks up on this almost instantly and begins singing along, minus the few drunk attendees merely conversating with each other.
Another new song, co-written by @iamblackbear Decisions is performed. If your wondering what Nylo's debut album will sound like, you get a pretty good idea from the nights performance that it will be innovative and fresh. For a finale, young Nylo closes with the beloved record Someone Like You. She then exits the stage, while the crowd yells encore. 5 minutes go by and no encore. Mysterious, yet tasteful. Nylo debut album coming this year.
Last week the ironic date of 12.12.12 new talent emerged from the masses to prove there is still original music being made. Artist and songwriter JMSN gave a performance of his career on wednesday night at the Troubadour in Holywood. He performed his debut project Priscilla in (almost) it's entirety as well as TDE camp member Ab Soul re introducing JMSN for an encore. A project is in the works between them two. Aside from his insane an intimate headline performance JMSN was accompanied by Chi City native Nylo as an opening act. I heard Nylo's debut ep Memories Speak last month and have had it on my mind since. Seeing her perform live was special as young Nylo held the crowds attention in her hand. The time has come for the next wave of music and sound. Although it seems like electronic basslines and club singles are polluting the industry, their is still hope for the future with artists like Nylo. @HateNylo is already a superstar in her own right. With her debut project Memories Speak out now, Nylo is a breath of fresh air from your typical female artist out right now. Her music has similarities to that of The Weeknd. A Dark Ominous tone fills her EP Memories Speak. Nylo is working on a full length studio album at this time. On December 12, 2012 Nylo will open for rising artist JMSN at the Troubadour in Hollywood, CA.
